This Valentine’s day, Vancouver is getting a little history with it’s sexy. The Talk Sex In The City exhibit traces Vancouver’s sexual history, from turn of the century vibrators to gold medals from the Gay Olympics. By not just looking at sexuality as biological, but it’s cultural and political impact as well, curator Viviane Gosselin invites visitors to examine how attitudes about sex affect not only our private bedrooms, but our political freedoms as well.

Focusing solely on the city it’s held in, Talking Sex in Vancouver gives a unique local history of sex in it’s city. Boasting proud and outspoken citizens, Vancouver is often a leader on sex issues, from contraceptives to gay rights. So when you find out the majority of sex toys on the market nowadays were created in Vancouver, it becomes hard to believe Vancouver was ever known as “no fun city.”

Sex Talk In The City runs February 14 – September 2 at the Museum of Vancouver. http://www.museumofvancouver.ca/exhibitions/exhibit/sex-talk-city
